Thanks for the wonderful explaination of this query I am amazed to see your knowledge and you remember also once you read..... my salute to you Rupali ....but I think the query is regarding more about discrimination between male & female in material world and hence same has been depicted in our God & Godess also I heard many times that Sita left this world before Ram because she has to arrange the vaikunth dham before Ram or Vishnuji arrived there so various stories depict this ...as per the social norm..

Basically this is a symbolic depiction.
Goddess Lakshmi or Mahalakshmi is the consort of Mahavishnu, the Preserver. She is the goddess of wealth and prosperity who provides the beings with all kinds of material abundance. She is a protector as well as bestower. She bestows upon deserving people according to their past karma and degrees of devotion. She also protects from ill health and adversity.Hence, in Hinduism, worship of Lakshmi is considered a suitable remedy for the alleviation of suffering.
Whenever Mahavishnu incarnates on earth in a human form, Lakshmi incarnates along with Him and plays her part in restoring Dharma. She incarnated as Padma When Vishnu incarnated upon earth as Vamana, as Dharani when he incarnated as Parasurama, as Sita when he incarnated as Rama and as Rukmini when he incarnated as Krishna.Goddess Laxmi symbolizes not just material wealth but wealth of all kinds from food to fame. Hence, she has many aspects representing various forms of wealth. Hindu tradition recognizes eight forms of Lakshmi collectively known as Ashtalakshmis (eight Lakshmis), each representing a particular type of wealth, namely: Adilakshmi ( Primeval Lakshmi), Dhanyalakshmi (crops or Grain Lakshmi), Dhairyalakshmi (courage), Gajalakshmi ( Elephant Lakshmi or giver of animal wealth (such as cattle)), Santanalakshmi (children), Vijayalakshmi (victory), Vidyalakshmi (education), and Dhanalakshmi (riches). Of these Gajalakshmi is the most popular, most likely because elephants were considered a great source of strength and victory in the battlefield for kings in ancient times.
Humans crave for materialistic benedictions. They run after money and wealth.
Consider the verse in Bhagvad gita : sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja aham tvam sarva-papebhyo moksayisyami ma sucah
Meaning : Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reaction. Do not fear.
In this verse Krishna/Vishnu says that he is above everything, so we should surrender to him. And he is also above the most important thing for mankind i.e wealth, fame , health etc in other words Lakshmi. So Lakshmi is very strong, very important. But Lakshmi herself worships Vishnu, serves Vishnu, loves Vishnu. So we all should worship, serve and love Vishnu whom the most important and powerful Goddess worships, serves and loves.
So if a man runs after money, he won't become powerful because money or wealth is subordinate to Vishnu/Krishna. Vishnu/Krishna is the most powerful. One who becomes attracted by the beautiful, all-powerful, omnipotent vision of Krsna is fortunate.
This symbolic depiction has nothing to do with the status of women in our Hindu society because Hindus worship women in the form of Durga, Kali, Saraswati etc. Most of the males work and earn money and indirectly serve their wives. They take care of the financial needs of their wife so indirectly they are serving them. Wives also take care of their husbands in their own ways. Both are important. No one is greater or lesser than each other. To maintain the balance of family both should respect and love each other as both cannot function without each other. So this symbolic depiction is a positive form explaining bhakti or devotion for the creator.
