When someone who is not a Krishna devotee but at the time of his death, he chants Hare Krishna Mahamantra, then he reaches one of the spiritual planets. But what if a person is Krishna devotee who always chants the Mahamantra but unfortunately gets into an accident and goes into coma and then dies...basically he could not chant the Mahamantra at the time of death, what happens to such a soul. Where does such a soul go? Does it then miss the opportunity to break the life-death cycle?
Answer:: Ajamil was a Krishna devotee for half of his life. He just had a spiritual fall. But since he was a devotee Krishna wanted to help him...so he had sent the sage to his house to convince him to name his son Narayan. To chant even Krishna's name once karma is required. To chant Krishna's name during death huge amount of good karma is required. So, a non-devotee may not be given such an ideal situation during death that he is able to chant his name.
Basically, the moral of this statement that if one chants Krishna's name during death goes to Him means...one must practice Krishna Consciousness his whole life ... in fact, not just that life but many lives and then maybe he gets a very favorable situation during death that he hears Krishna’s name or chants his name during death. But still if a non-devotee chants his name during death.... that won't be coincidence. He must have been a devotee in other births.
Whereas a devotee who could not chant his name during death means that still he was not purified enough. He was attached to his body, family, house etc so he could not remember Krishna during death. But it won't be a great loss. Next life he will be born in such a family and will receive such circumstances that his devotion will get an opportunity to prosper & grow.
So basically, Krishna keeps giving opportunities to all His devotes so that they can reach Him. Even if a devotee goes into coma. If he was a pure devotee the situation will be favourable for him, may be someone will chant Krishna’s name in his ear during his death. Even hearing is enough. My grandmother heard Krishna’s name from my father. She wasn't a great devotee, but she worshipped Bal Gopal whole life. But I should not judge...who knows how were her previous births and she must have suffered so much that her bad karmas were over.
Also, Krishna consciousness changes fate. So, if the soul goes through an accident that could be due to several reasons. Either the soul chose that their past bad karma will all be finished because more painful the death process, more of one’s bad karma is erased. Or maybe if the soul was not a pure devotee but at a seeker level then it will take further time. The most important thing here is that there are many ways to reach “Goloka Vrindavan”. Chanting Krishna Mahamantra during the moments of Death is one of the ways. It’s not the only way....so don't get confused. The great saint “Sant Tukaram” didn’t have to chant Krishna Mahamantra during his death. He was sent divine vehicle during his death time and Lord Krishna personally came to take him. So, all we need to do is perform “Krishna Consciousness” with all heart & soul, then either Lord Vishnu’s dooth or Lord Krishna himself will personally come to take your soul, that’s it then – the purpose of all our lives completed (and no more tension 😊).
Very well explain..
