Rupal i I am
a problem... it may be silly one but it is increasing my fear feeling day by day. Actually my house is behind satyajit Ray film institute in Kolkata..n in that compound lot of trees ponds n empty space is there which faces towards my balcony side. So lots of creatures enter in my home thru door n windows n I am killing them with mosquito bat. I am doing forgiveness but somehow I feel we don't have right to kill other living being n doubt is it going to add to my bad karma n fearing it's consequences. Kindly suggest me please to get rid of the guilt feeling
Well explained
Thanks so much Rupali for a lovely explanation. I understand n fully try to follow as mentioned in all possible situations. While listening to bhagavatam cd I heard that lord Vishnu says to muchikund that in his past life he had hunted animals in forest n had to bear related karma for more time n fearing for my case I asked this doubt to u. Thank u so much dear for ur time n help.đâ¤ď¸
Wow, wonderfully explained. The concept of Bright & Dark Karma is totally new and was so interesting to know. I guess, if one's intention is just to defend oneself from some external hurt (no selfish motive), then the level of karma inflicted would be low - like explained above. :-)
Hi dear...regarding your question I would like to discuss some facts. Apart from the normal categories of karma there is bright kamma(karma), dark kamma(karma) and mixed kamma(karma).
Lets take an example. Suppose a mother kills a mosquito to protect her child. Choosing to kill a mosquito is obviously "dark kamma", but the intention to protect a child is "bright kamma", and so the situation is mixed. Whether it's more on the dark or bright side probably depends on the weight of intention -- i.e., if you weren't strongly motivated by a desire to kill the critter, but rather were just trying to get it away from a vulnerable toddler, then the kamma wouldn't be so negative.Â
By contrast, there are those who would use the kid mainly as an excuse for striking out at the insect. And my guess is that if you or I were to kill a mosquito just to protect ourselves from being bitten, it would be mostly dark kamma since the intention is selfish.Â
While killing is never the right thing to do, there are passages in the scriptures which indicate that common sense applies and the weight of the kamma depends on the person's intent and overall frame of mind. I doubt that swatting a mosquito, out of an instinctive response to protect one's son, is on the same moral level as deliberately and cruelly setting out to inflict harm.
So the best thing would be to put nets and insect repellents in your house to prevent this karma. Try to throw them away instead of killing them if possible. If at all you have to kill to protect yourself bless the insect that it should get a human birth and be a Krishna devotee or be highly spiritual etc. Do forgiveness saadhna for the insects every week. Powerful forgiveness sadhna includes all the souls so it should work better.
